Challenge
Arm, the leading semiconductor and software design company, wanted to bring thousands of the world’s smartest software and hardware developers together for the first time to discover the latest developments in computing, to encourage collaboration and innovation-sharing across a global community.
Covid-19 had stopped the world of events in its tracks. Real life had been supplanted by near-constant video-conferencing, but Arm was determined that its DevSummit shouldn’t feel like “just another online event”.
Solution
To create a three-day experience designed with the audience’s interests in mind. The experience needed to cut through “Zoom fatigue” while exciting both groups of developers in their native language - digital.
Using the latest graphics technology, powered by Arm, we created Arm’s HQ from 2050 - a futuristic, high-rise located in the heart of a smart city. This enabled us to bring a sense of physicality to our bespoke platform, “grounding” the various summit segments in different parts of Arm HQ to create an engaging user experience. Arm’s CEO, Simon Segars, welcomed guests to the rooftop auditorium; Microsoft and Nasa hosted partner sessions in the lab; a games arcade was held in the basement, along with ArmTV, which delivered three days of live programming.
DevSummit was broadcast to a global audience in five languages and across three time zones, ensuring that no one missed the latest developments in computing. From the platform experience to the content, every aspect of Arm DevSummit was bespoke.
The event, which massively surpassed its registration target, built a new community of developers. For those unable to attend, all 130 sessions were available on-demand on the Tech Hub for three months.
